Tuesday November 6th in Vantaa, Finland the team got ready for day one of the of the Four Nations Cup. First opponent Sweden, 4-0, win. Wednesday was a struggle for US against Canada, 1-3 loss, no worries come back to defeat Finland 15-1.
Final game was on Saturday November 10th U.S. successfully retained the gold medal with a shutout 3-0 against Canada. During the first period a penalty was assessed to U.S. goaltender Jessie Vetter for delay of play, in spite of the penalty U.S. kept their focus on the gold. That night Vetter’s was the star of the game with 26 saves. Canada had a rough time taking advantage of the power play opportunities during the game. The U.S. took advantage of a power play they had during the game extending the lead by 2-0. There was another power play opportunity US took full advantage by ending the game with a final score of 3-0. Within the champions there are two women playing for the Minnesota Whitecaps in the WWHL. These players include Jessie Vetter; goaltender whom had 35 saves and Sarah Erickson; forward who had three assists during the week in Finland. Both Whitecap players played competitively in all four games and had exceptional success.
