Whitecaps Travel to Wisconsin to Take on the Badgers

On January 4th the Whitecaps battled against the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison, Wis. at La Bahn Arena. Jessie Vetter was the goal tender for the evening with 34 saves. The Whitecaps and the Badgers were fighting hard; late into the first period, Wisconsin forward, Karley Sylvester found the net with an assist from defenseman Saige Pacholok. During the first period there was two penalties assessed to Jenny Schnickel and Marley McMillan. While the Whitecaps tried to come back, their hard efforts came up short against the Badgers.

During the second period the Badgers scored two goals within the first ten minutes of the period, freshman defenseman Courtney Burke scored first  with assists from forward Kim Drake and defenseman Jordan Brickner while forward Rachel Jones made the second goal, assists from defensemen Saige Pacholok and Katrina Zagraja.

In the third period each team was protecting their net with strong defense.   The Whitecaps picked up the pace and doubled their shots on net but did could not get one past the Badger goalie.   Badger forward Katy Josephs with an assist from  forward Brianna Decker scored the game ending goal. The final score was 0-4 for a Badgers win.

A couple weeks before the Wisconsin game (Dec. 8th and 9th) the Whitecaps spit against Shattuck St. Mary’s. Shattuck St. Mary’s lost on Saturday 5-2 and won on Sunday 1-2.

Saturday, December 8th  the Sabres were ahead after the first period 0-2 but things shifted when the Whitecaps speed kicked in.  Their first goal was late into the first period and their second goal early in the second period tying the score 2-2. Once the score was tied the Whitecaps took advantage of the opportunity in the rest of the periods ending the final score of 5-2.

Sunday was a different story for the Whitecaps. Shattuck scored the first goal of the game in the first period. The Whitecaps returned the favor by tying the game 1-1 in the second period. Late into the third period the Sabres scored 2-1, which also happened to be the final score for the Sunday afternoon.

The Whitecaps are looking forward to playing against the Shattuck St. Mary on Saturday, January 19, 5:30pm game time at the Rogers Ice Arena in  Rogers, MN with a 4:00 pm clinic for female youth hockey  players when they purchase a game ticket.  A meet and greet with the players will occur after the game with Whitecaps players available to sign autographs and talk with the fans.

Sundays game, January 20 will again be against  Shattuck St. Mary's and will be held at the  Princeton Ice Arena in Princeton MN.  The puck drops at 2:30 pm with a clinic provided for the female youth hockey players after the game. After the clinic and game there will be a meet and greet with the Whitecaps players.
